The state superintendent checked out a physics demonstration, as part of his visit to Frankenmuth High School on Friday.

"If we want to become a top ten performing state it's all about what's happening in the classrooms," said Michigan Superintendent Brian Whiston.

Whiston wants to know how he can better serve educators, in an effort to give them the tools they need to focus on teaching students in the classroom.

Whiston is also looking at what works so he can share those lessons across the state. And he said Frankenmuth is near the head of the class.

"We need to engage our students. We need to give them options. We need to have them be invested in their education," Whiston said. "That's what's happening here in Frankenmuth."

A representative with the school district said they're pleased to see the state superintendent in Frankenmuth.

"We're honored that he came and chose Frankenmuth High School to visit," said Principal Jolynn Clark. "I think it's awesome that he's taking time out of his very busy schedule to come visit high schools, see what's happening around the state."

Clark said she sees great things every day and is thrilled at the chance to share their plan with Whiston.

"They work very, very hard both students and staff and it's great to have that recognized," Clark said.

Whiston said members of his department will soon be at a school near you.

"We'll be doing over three hundred school visits during the school year to listen, learn, and to see what we need to do to help schools be successful," Whiston said.
