Hit-and-run suspect still on the run

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Choking back tears, Jesse LaForest describes the torment his family has been through after a weekend with no answers.

"It's been extremely overwhelming," Jesse LaForest said.

The question: who caused the wreck that killed his brother Calvin on South Euclid in Bay County?

"It really pulls at the heartstrings knowing that the person who did this is still out there and refuses to turn themselves in," Jesse LaForest said.

Calvin LaForest’s family is still looking for answers. Calvin LaForest was riding his motorcycle in Bay City, when a truck pulled out in front of him, causing him to crash.

LaForest died before first-responders arrived.

State police said they recovered the truck that pulled out and caused Calvin LaForest to crash into it on his motorcycle, but it was considered stolen.

The actual owner of the truck has been cleared of wrongdoing, and the suspect fled the scene on foot. So at this point, there's no identity or description of the suspect being released.

"Knowing that you're out there, and you caused this accident, and you're not owning up to it, manning up the way you should," Jesse LaForest said. "It just tears out heart open, knowing that they can't catch this guy, he's got to do the right thing."

As he continues to wait for the answers he so desperately wants, LaForest has a request for the community.

"Say a prayer for Calvin and the family. We just want to get this put behind this and do what's right for Calvin and his grandchildren," Jesse LaForest said.

Funeral arraignments have been set for Calvin LaForest. His family said the visitation and funeral services will be held on Sept. 23 at the Gephart Funeral Home in Bay City.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 11 a.m., until the funeral starts at 4 p.m. LaForest is also being honored for his service in the Marine Corps.
