FENTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A man is behind bars after he was accused of trying to lure three young children into his vehicle.

It happened on Grove Park Road in Fenton Township.

“It’s shocking to hear out here,” said Daniel Nichols, Fenton Township Resident.

Nichols said his neighborhood is the last place he would expect to hear that someone tried to abduct three young children.

Anthony Mangiaracina is accused of trying to lure three children into his vehicle.

“He asked the kids if he could come in the house and play games and asked the kids ‘Are your parents home?’ And when the kids told him the parents were home, he said ‘Well, you can get into my car and play,’” Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell said.

Pickell said the kids then ran back inside and their parents called the police. Investigators began looking for a suspect, but it was Mangiaracina’s family that helped crack the case.

“The defendant’s sister saw it on TV and said ‘They’re talking about you, you better turn yourself in,’ and he did,” Pickell said.

As for Nichols, he’s glad the suspect was caught and the kids are safe. However, he insists neighbors should still be extra alert and report anything suspicious.

“Anything like that to detour people from trying to do this, especially in your own neighborhood,” Nichols said.
