A jogger came across a disturbing sight Tuesday morning.

She thought she came across a carcass of a dead calf, but it ended up being a small doe that was killed, butchered and thrown into a ditch. The jogger called 911 upon discovery of the animal.

The animal was discovered in Tittabawassee Township on Kochville Road, between Garfield and Hackett.

Upon arrival to the scene police found the torso of the animal in the ditch.

“We found several other garbage bags in the ditch. We found the head of a deer, it actually is a doe, a smaller doe. We found the head, we found the insides, we found the legs cut off and put into individual bags,” Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel said.

Police found a gunshot wound to the back of the animal and believe that’s how it was killed.

“We think that this animal was poached and it was processed and then dumped here illegally,” Federspiel said.

The tenderloins were taken off of the animal and the rest of the meat remained.

“It’s uncommon. Hunters are different from poachers. A hunter who hunts legally would never do this,” Federspiel said.

There are no leads or witnesses at this time.
