Suspect charged with murder of store owner

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The owner of a Mid-Michigan market was killed after being shot, and one person has been charged.

It happened at 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Stanley’s Market, that’s at Flint Park Boulevard and Martin Luther King Boulevard in Flint.

George Assaf was killed during a robbery, police said.

Jawone Watkins, 18, was charged for first degree murder, armed robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.

Friends and family will be able to pay their respects from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the Reigle Funeral Home in Flushing.

Assaf's funeral takes place at 11 a.m. Sept. 29 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church. His burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
