Single-engine plane crashes into farm field

Posted: Updated:

Mechanical problems forced a two-seat plane into a field after traffic prevented an emergency landing.

The Sanilac County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash at 2:26 p.m. on Tuesday.

They found the 69-year-old pilot and the 64-year-old passenger were both out of the plane and walking.

Police said the pair had just left the Sandusky airport when mechanical issues began. After attempting to return to Sandusky Airport, the pilot tried to land on Ruth Road in Bridgehampton Township.

Due to traffic, the pilot veered off into a field, but lost control due to the mechanical problem and crashed upside down.

Both were taken to Deckerville Hospital for treatment of injuries.
