Police warn residents of asphalt scam

CLAYTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Police are warning residents to be on the lookout for a new scam.

An asphalt company has been going door to door in Genesee County’s Clayton Township. The company has been telling residents they have asphalt left over from a nearby job and they will do their driveway for cheap, police said.

The company, if the resident agrees, will place a thin layer on the driveway and charge triple the price of what it would actually cost, police said.

Some residents have fallen victim to this scam and have paid the company.

If you have fallen victim to the scam or have been approached by the company contact the Clayton Township Police Department at 810-635-3230.

The suspect has a crew of workers driving in a pick-up truck that is white, gray or red, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male, 25 to 30 years old, 5’9” to 6’, weighs between 175 and 200 pounds, and has brown hair.
