Group of Catholic teens traveling to Philadelphia to see Pope Francis

Dozens of local students and adult leaders received a blessing on Wednesday at Bay City All Saints, before they travel to see Pope Francis while he's in Philadelphia.

"He really speaks to the youth and he's out and he's doing service and that encourages us to do service," said Kirah McLean, a senior at Bay City All Saints.

McLean said she couldn’t be more excited.

"It means the opportunity of a lifetime getting to go to mass and be with the pope in that setting," McLean said.

Church leaders said the trip is also about celebrating and worshiping with thousands of other Catholics from all over the country and the world.

"There will be bishops and cardinals and people from all over the world they are going to be shoulder to shoulder with a million other people worshiping God and praising God," said campus minister, Mary Beth Hopps.

Fr. Jose Cabrera said, "Just to be in the middle of that experience is going to be phenomenal."

And students like McLean expect the experience to be life-changing.

"I hope that it gives me a better grip on my faith," McLean said.
