A suspect who sparked a massive manhunt has been caught.

It all started about 8:30 a.m. in the wooded area behind Silver Creek Apartments in Birch Run. The massive police presence then moved west to the Morrish and Rathbun area. Investigators say the man, from Saginaw, was caught about a half-mile from that intersection, at 6299 Rathbun Road. After a nearly 3 hour long search, a K-9 officer found him hiding in some brush in the backyard behind a house.

The Michigan State Police earlier attempted to arrest the man on a 16 count felony warrant including first and second degree home invasion, assault and battery, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and felonious assault with weapon. Investigators said last week the man allegedly pointed a gun at them before taking off.

Police attempted to pick him up Thursday morning at his girlfriend's house, but he investigators say that he spotted officers while outside smoking a cigarette at Silver Creek Apartments. So he got into a vehicle with his girlfriend, but bailed out before going anywhere and fled on foot.

The Michigan State Police, a K-9 unit and MSP helicopter were involved in the search for the suspect. He is described as a black male, 5'7", 150 pounds, and has dreadlocks. The suspect was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw to be checked out.

All Birch Run Area School buildings were put in secure mode as a precaution. That means all doors and windows are locked, and no one is going in or out of the buildings.

During the manhunt MSP encouraged anyone who lived in the area to stay inside and keep their doors locked.
