More cases of meningitis have been diagnosed in a local school district.

Delano Genovesi has twin daughters. They're seniors at Swartz Creek High School. They've had the last couple of days off because of meningitis in the district.

"I'm not sure how to feel about it. I certainly don't understand it. But I let the health officials take care of it. I think we'll be okay," Genovesi said.

Three different buildings, four cases, three viral, and one bacterial, has brought the district to a halt. Genovesi is glad to see educators postponing classes. All in an effort to stop the infection from spreading.

"I'm glad they did close school. I hope they do clean it up for them and I’m glad they are at home now yes," Genovesi said.

The assistant superintendent said this has been a tough couple of weeks for the district.

"We've been on the phone constantly with the Genesee County Health Department. Talking to them every time a situation suspected or confirmed comes up and as you know we've had quite a bit of those recently," said Rodney Hetherton.

Hetherton said Friday's football game has been rescheduled for Saturday. Just one of numerous events postponed or canceled as a result of the illness.

"We're using the right chemicals, we're spraying the right surfaces, so we're doing our part to make sure everything is taken care of," Hetherton said.

Genovesi is making sure his daughters take their own precautions.

"No drinking out of other bottles. They play sports and what not so stay away from sharing bottles of water. Wash your hands and you know just be careful. No hugging and kissing," Genovesi said.
