BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Local police agencies are taking part National Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The program allows anyone to anonymously drop off unused or expired pills for free.

Several people stopped by the Bay County Law Enforcement Center to drop off their drugs.

Officer Leslie Darrow advises people against flushing medicine down the toilet, because the drugs could enter the water system. Instead, police want to help make sure they are properly disposed of.

"We don't want them left laying around the house just in case somebody were to come in, we don't want them stealing the drugs and abusing them, Darrow said.

Police departments across Mid-Michigan are also participating in the program.
