Golf course vandalism in the thousands of dollars

TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

"The first word that came to my mind was: idiots."

That was Tim Sheridan’s reaction when he saw the 16th hole on the Timbers Golf Course.

Sheridan is the superintendent of the course. He’s been working on and managing golf courses for three decades and has never dealt with anything like this.

"This is way beyond anything that I've ever seen before, and with 30 years in the business I've actually seen quite a bit of vandalism," Sheridan said.

Apparently a foursome on the course gouged, ripped and shredded the green for some unknown reason.  Their tools of choice?

"I can tell for sure an iron, and mostly a putter, based on the shape of the divots and the way they are formed, actually probably a left handed person was involved," Sheridan said.

Sheridan doesn't have an estimate on how much it will cost to repair the green, but it’s in the thousands of dollars.  It could take a few weeks to get it looking halfway decent.

A sheriff's deputy showed up Monday morning to scope out the scene and investigate the case.
