FBI releases 2014 crime statistics, Mid-Michigan cities among most violent

MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) -

The FBI released its annual crime report showing crime is down across most of the country.

The report, which used data from 2014, recorded murder and robbery crimes were down, while rape and aggravated assault crimes increased from the previous year.

Although, crime rates were down across the country, some Mid-Michigan cities saw an increase.

Flint had 1,694 violent crimes in 2014, including 28 murders and 115 rapes.

Violent crime is consisted of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

Those numbers have only increased in 2015, where Flint has more than 40 murders so far this year.

Saginaw was another city that had a lot of violent crime in 2014.

The city had 845 violent crimes, including 11 murders.

That number is down this year. Saginaw has only had seven murders so far in 2015.

Outside sources have used the data to rank the most violent cities per capita. Those rankings have showed Detroit as the most violent. Flint ranked No. 3 and Saginaw ranked No. 4.

Those three cities have routinely made the top of the list in recent years.
