Connie Sierocki starts to choke up as she thinks about her situation.

“You never want to find yourself in this situation, but here we are,” Sierocki said.

For over a decade, she and her husband have lived in and kept up their home in Bridgeport. But now, their garage roof needs a big repair.

“With my husband being ill, and I just can't do it,” Sierocki said.

Her husband was recently diagnosed with two types of cancer, and can no longer do things like fix roofs or even mow the lawn.

And with so many hospital visits, those medical bills are piling up fast, leaving no room for roof repair.

“We have a lot of medical bills that are going to be coming in, and just being on Medicare there's no way we can handle it all ourselves,” Sierocki said.

The roof is falling in and there are large holes and missing shingles. Sierocki said she fears it could collapse any minute.

Right now a tarp covers the whole in the roof, but Sierocki is worried come winter, that may not be enough to keep it from caving in.

This fear, and the health of her husband, weighs heavy on Sierocki.

“I get moments where I just get moments where I just sit by myself and cry,” Sierocki said.

Sierocki reached out to the TV5 rescue squad because this roof repair is something her family needs, but isn't able to do themselves.

She needs someone skilled at repairing roofs to give her some help. She said it's not something she likes asking for, but she's not sure what else to do.

“It'd show me that someone does care, for the older people,” Sierocki said.

And someone does care.

Duraguard Commercial Roofing has agreed to fix the garage roof for Sierocki and her husband.

Duraguard's owner said it was the least they could do.

"You know, we've all been in situations before where we need help, and we're just paying it forward. That's it," he said.

Duraguard said they hope to have the roof fixed within the next 10 days.
