Potentially dangerous encounter with bear takes a turn

ALASKA (WNEM) -

A woman’s potentially dangerous encounter with a black bear takes a slightly comedic turn when he loses interest with her, and turns his attention to her kayak.

The video posted on Youtube by someone named Mary Maley says that she was on a solo kayak trip in Alaska.

Apparently the incident happened outside of a U.S. Forest Service cabin in Berg Bay. The woman claims she had just carried her tent, food, and all her gear into the cabin to dry when she heard something outside. You hear her in the video first thanking the bear for leaving her kayak alone, and then changing her tune. Even questioning why the animal was there in the first place. “It’s the end of September, why are you here? You’re supposed to be asleep.”

The woman who posted the video claims she started the video about 5 minutes in, and the bear continued to gnaw on her only means of transportation for another 5 or 10 minutes after she turned off the camera.

She was eventually able to get hope thanks to a boat anchored in the bay.
