GRAND BLANC, MI (WNEM) -

Meningitis has been diagnosed in a sixth and seventh Mid-Michigan school.

Grand Blanc parents were sent a letter from the school district, informing them a student had been diagnosed with viral meningitis.

The superintendent said in the letter that the school would be disinfected and the student's school bus would be thoroughly cleaned.

The Beecher School also reports a case of viral meningitis at Dailey Elementary.

Viral meningitis is reasonably common. One student has been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, which can be deadly.

Paying special attention to hand washing and personal hygiene can prevent the spread of the virus.
