Family turns to crowd-funding after husband diagnosed with brain cancer

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Jamie Smith has brain cancer.

And as with many medical issues, the bills are piling up.

Sarah Smith says in the past few months her life has been flipped upside down.

"It's hard I don't want to lose him," Sara Smith said.

Her husband, Jaime Smith, only 40-years-old was diagnosed with a rare and incurable brain cancer back in July.

"He's a great guy and a great dad... I just don't understand why this had to happen to him," Sarah Smith said.

To make matters worse Sara Smith said she's had to contact a lawyer because she says Jamie Smith's former company has been giving her the runaround regarding long term disability benefits.

And now the medical bills are piling up.

Sara Smith's sister Kelly Pennington said the family is in desperate need of a miracle.

"I reached out to you guy because I'm not sure how much longer she can hold up," Pennington said.

With no insurance and nowhere else to turn, Sara Smith like so many others, has had to resort to crowd funding to help make ends meet.

"Chemo costs about $24,000 every six months," Sara Smith said.

This family with no income said they are hoping and praying that a GoFundMe page will help pay the bills and put food on the table so that Sara Smith can continue to care for her husband as he begins the fight of his life against stage 4 brain cancer.

"I don't know what else to do," Sara Smith said.
