TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

State Sen. Mike Green is trying to solve what he calls a problem.

"Reaction to that has been to throw the whole school into lockdown. Which creates a lot of time loss, a lot of fear, scaring the kids," Green said.

Under current law a person with a concealed pistol license cannot have a gun in a gun free zone like schools and day care centers. But a loophole allows for people to openly carry in those areas.

Green's proposal would allow permit holders to carry concealed weapons in those gun-free zones with an exemption from the state.

"There's superintendents that have been asking us and other folks to change the law. Look we can live with concealed carry as long as we don't see it and the kids don't see it," Green said.

The proposal goes before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Green is confident his measure will become law.

"I've been kind of the lead player on all the concealed weapons bills. And we have bi-partisanly overwhelmingly passed each one of the bills that I have introduced," Green said.
