Residents upset over proposed changes to bus service

Posted: Updated:
SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Officials have held the first of three public meetings to get input on proposed bus route changes for the Saginaw STARS transportation system.

The STARS general manager said the changes were necessary to save money and reflect on the loss of ridership as Saginaw’s population falls.

He said the changes could mean a tougher time getting to the bus stop for some.

Members of the public in attendance at the meeting Wednesday night were upset about the proposed changes.

One resident said the changes would negatively impact college students living in the city.

Many residents spoke on a feeling of distrust for the transportation board. They said they felt slighted after just approving a millage in August and to now having their bus services cut.

The final decision on routes and times will be presented to the transportation board Oct. 26.

The next public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 19 at 11 a.m.
