A suburban Detroit man convicted of arranging his wife's death is testifying in court as part of his efforts to get a new trial.
Bob Bashara told a Wayne County Circuit judge Thursday that Jane Bashara gave him permission to have extramarital affairs because the couple was unable to have sex due to medical conditions.
Prosecutors have said that Bashara had his wife killed so he could live a new life with another woman.
Bob Bashara wants his murder conviction and life sentence thrown out, saying his rights were violated by an ineffective defense.
Jane Bashara of Grosse Pointe Park was found dead in 2012. Prosecutors have said 57-year-old Bob Bashara coerced handyman Joe Gentz into strangling her. Gentz was convicted of second-degree murder and is in prison.
