SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Devine Dunlap grew up in Saginaw. She played at Fordney Park when she was a child.

It's a place she still comes to clear her head and unwind.

"It's just a normal area for me, when I'm stressed or just to relax," Dunlap said.

Dunlap couldn't believe it when she heard her quiet place was a crime scene Sunday morning.

"Not really sure what to say about it. It kind of scared me for a minute," Dunlap said.

Someone was out walking on Sunday when they saw a dead body and called police.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Laquavis Cooper.

Police said Cooper was found near the playground. He had been shot. They don't know when it happened or why the violence occurred in what many people consider to be a safe place.

Saginaw Police Sgt. Reggie Williams said detectives from Michigan State Police are now investigating.

It's still not clear if the victim was shot in the park, or if his body was brought there after the fact.

Dunlap said it's unsettling that the violence in the city continues to spread, but she said she won't let the incident stop her from coming to her neighborhood park for a little peace.

"I will always be worried for my safety, but this place is peaceful to me so I'm not going to let it stop me," Dunlap said.

Michigan State Police said three suspects have been arrested in connection with Cooper's death.

Jamal Reid, 23, Jason Wrenn, 20, and Charles Wilson Jr., 17, have been charged with one count of open murder and one count of conspiracy to commit open murder.

They were arraigned on Oct. 20.
