Woman in need of ramp after crushing her ankle

Posted: Updated:

About a year ago, Lucille Surles had her right knee replaced. Then six months later, it gave way on the steps of her home.

"I fell on the concrete and crushed my ankle," Lucille Surles said.

Lucille Surles said she used to live an active lifestyle. Now she's reduced to staying home and watching TV. Feeling hopeless, she turned to the TV5 rescue squad for help, hoping for a ramp and a way out of her living room.

"I'm housebound. I got anxiety. And just crying all the time because I’m housebound," Lucille Surles said.

And to rub salt in these wounds Lucille Surles said the six steps to her home are keeping her from seeing her dying son. He has cancer and only has six weeks to six months to live.

"I tried to go to my son's house Saturday and I put one foot down and I couldn't do it. I told them to bring me back into the house because I didn't want to fall," Lucille Surles said.

Her husband Uleslie Surles can get around but he has arthritis. Thankfully, he has been able to see Lucille Surles's son.

"A lot times he'll be crying. He's very weak," Uleslie Surles said.

Uleslie Surles said the couple can't afford a ramp. And with time running out he hopes someone out there can grant a son's dying wish.

"It would mean the world to him to see his mother. He's crazy about his mother," Uleslie Surles said.

Lucille Surles said she's in pain every day. At one point it got so bad she thought about taking her own life. But she said she believes in God and she has faith that one of our viewers can help her get that life-changing ramp.

"I'd appreciate it, any help that I could get as far as a ramp," Lucille Surles said.
