LANSING, MI (AP) -

Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff within the State Capitol Complex and on all state buildings in honor of an airman from western Michigan who was killed in a helicopter crash in Kabul, Afghanistan.

The flag-lowering is ordered for Monday for 38-year-old Master Sgt. Gregory Kuhse of Kalamazoo. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday. The governor's office says he was a class of 1995 graduate of Comstock High School and enlisted in the Air Force in 1996.

Snyder say in a statement that "Kuhse died honorably defending his country and our state, and we should always be mindful of that ultimate sacrifice and grateful for his selfless service."

Four others aboard the helicopter also were killed and five others were hurt.
