Fire victims receive overwhelming donations

Posted: Updated:

Amy Kolb's emotions get the best of her when she thinks of what was her home.

"One day at a time," Kolb said.

But those tears are quickly extinguished as she shuffles through the all these donated clothes.

"My children and myself wouldn’t have any clothes on our back right now if it wasn't for our family, friends, and our community has pulled together," Kolb said.

Just last Thursday, Oct. 22, she and seven other families lost everything when a fire ripped through Howard Apartment Complex in Linwood.

"I laid on the ground crying, and sobbing, and watching everybody's homes just disappear," Kolb said.

And she said she would have never guessed what would happen next.

Lana Bauer said she couldn't just sit back and watch, so she put out a call for help.

"I just think it's endless, it really is, it's been endless," Bauer said.

And one by one, people donated what they could to help families like Kolb’s.

And those donations have been non-stop.

"Together, with this community and beyond, we have so many people and organizations ready to help these families, not just today, but long term," Bauer said.

And people's generous hearts have not gone unnoticed.

"I am so much more at peace today, it's unbelievable," Kolb said. "I really didn't know I was going to be OK with everything, but to be honest with you, I am comfortable and everything is going to be wonderful."

Now, incredibly, so many clothes have been donated they don't need anymore.

In a couple of weeks, the community will be invited to shop through all that's left. But they're still looking for financial donations to help the families impacted.
