Family wants head stone placed after months of waiting

Posted: Updated:

Brenda Montgomery visits her daughter’s gravesite a few times a week. Kelli Contreras died of Legionnaires disease back in 2013.

"Running out of patience... very frustrated... very angry," Montgomery said.

But there's one problem. After months of waiting, the headstone is still missing.

"It's over here in Forest Lawn Cemetery in the back area. It's been there since the first week of June," Montgomery said.

Montgomery's other daughter Kirsten Tawbe said the headstone was bought, paid for and delivered to Forest Lawn Cemetery back in June.

"I paid for the stone, $1,300, the fee for placing it has been paid," Tawbe said.

The family says they've called the city to complain many times and so far, nothing has been done.

"I'm disappointed. I don't like how I've been treated," Montgomery said.

Montgomery said she can't help but wonder something may be wrong.

"I'm wondering if it's cracked or chipped, I'm wondering, what's the matter?" Montgomery said.

TV5 wanted to ask tough questions to get answers for this grieving family who said they just want what they paid for.

Cemetery director Nicolas Munoz insists the family has nothing to worry about. The headstone is safe and sound. In fact he showed it to TV5.

As for the reason why it hasn't been placed at the grave site. Munoz said city is backed up.

"We're so shorthanded – understaffed," Munoz said.
