FBI alerts law enforcement of Halloween threat

Posted: Updated:

With Halloween falling on a Saturday night, police expect a busy night.

But there's an even bigger concern looming and that's a potential threat against police.

Candy typically gets all the credit, but there's more to Halloween than just the sweets.

Quintin Patilla said filling the bags is a family tradition.

On Thursday, they went door-to-door at Crossroad’s Village, collecting this year's candy.

"Got the whole family out," Patilla said.

Because they plan to stay out of the Halloween mix.

"This is safe. This is really safe because there's a lot of crazy people out there," said Shirley Kelly.

Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel said he plans to have extra deputies on duty.

An FBI warning of a possible attack on Halloween night is even more reason to do so.

"Some group has made mention of dressing up in Halloween costumes, causing a disturbance, and then ambushing law enforcement, so that's real concern of mine," Federspiel said.

The warning doesn't specify where, but the FBI is taking the threat seriously and sent it out to departments across the country.

"They're just saying that they have information that it is a possibility, and we should be on alert. So, we're on alert," Federspiel said.

The sheriff said police will be out doing their job to make sure people are safe.

Patilla said they're happy with the Halloween experience they're getting at Crossroad's Village.

"Want to be safe, have a good time, get the family together, and enjoy each other," Patilla said.

And if you do go out this Saturday, police remind you to stay vigilant.

If you see something that doesn't seem right, say something.
