SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A horse was injured after a car accident involving an Amish buggy.

The incident happened at the intersection of Bay City Forestville Road and Germania Road in Sanilac County’s Greenleaf Township.

It happened shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday.

A 2002 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound on Bay City Forestville Road when she struck the buggy, police said.

Elizabeth Bowerman, 21, of Ubly, was driving the vehicle.

The buggy, driven by 21-year-old Mose Kempf, was on Germania Road attempting to make a left turn into the westbound lane. Kempf misjudged the distance of the car and turned in front of it, police said.

The horse, June, was injured from the accident and transported to Bad Axe for treatment.

After the accident the two drivers were going to seek their own medical treatment at Huron Memorial Hospital, police said.

The extent of their injuries are unknown.
