SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

The Saginaw Children’s Zoo has announced that four elderly animals had to be put down.

Andy the Jersey cow, Josie and Bonnie the Clydesdale horses, and Zena the grey wolf were euthanized Wednesday while surrounded by their zookeepers.

The animals were elderly, and zoo officials say it was apparent they were all suffering. That’s when the decision was made to put them down.

Andy was born on a dairy farm and arrived at the Children’s Zoo in 2007 at the age of 8.

Bonnie and Josie arrived at the zoo in 2007 to spend their “retirement years” after years of pulling carriages.

Zena, the white wolf, came to the zoo as a 2-year old in 2000 and has outlived three of her companions.

The zoo will hold a memorial service during the Holidays in the Heart of the City event on November 20th. From 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. people can go and share their memories of the animals and experiences at the Children’s Zoo.
