An owl is recovering after it suffered a concussion after it hit a car window on Halloween.

The incident happened in the area of W. Wackerly and Stark in Midland about 9:40 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle called a veterinarian who said he would attempt to treat the owl, police said.

Midland police officers, along with two citizens, safely placed the owl in a box and transported it to an animal clinic for treatment.

The owl suffered a concussion from the accident, but does not have any fractures, police said, adding there may be some internal injuries.

The small owl was transported to the Wildlife Recovery Association in Shepherd. It will stay in a quiet, outdoor sanctuary until it heals and is ready to be released back into the wild.

They believe it could be a few months based on the severity of the concussion.

The owl is improving and it is moving around a little bit, said Barb Rogers, with the Wildlife Recovery Association.

The owl is still being kept in a quiet area, but may be moved to an outdoor cage soon.

The Wildlife Recovery Association is not open to the public.
