Inventor, community leader celebrates 100th birthday

Posted: Updated:

Joe Valenta turned 100 years-old on Tuesday. Loved ones gathered around to celebrate his monumental birthday.

“We are still lucky to have him around,” said son, Robert Valenta.

After working at Dow Chemical for more than 40 years, his hard work ethic never stopped.

Since his retirement, Joe Valenta has volunteered at the Midland Community Center for 35 years. That is where he has really left his mark, according to the executive director, Kevin Heye.

“He always has a hug and a smile for when our members come in, he loves being here, we love having him, he's part of our family,” Heye said.

Even the president of the United States wished Joe Valenta a happy birthday.

Over the course of his 100 years, Joe Valenta has worn a lot hats: husband, father, community leader and even inventor.

“He was part of the group that invented Dow Bathroom Cleaner, he's proud of his work, known as scrubbing bubbles, he was also part of the group that invented Zest soap,” Robert Valenta said.

Joe Valenta said, “Oh how lucky I was – I invented Scrubbing Bubbles.”

Even though Joe Valenta has had some health struggles lately, it doesn't stop him from living life and celebrating his century mark birthday.

“Oh I am glad I was able to live as long as I have,” Joe Valenta said.
