Oklahoma school district considering 4-day week

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA (CBS) -

An Oklahoma school district is considering going to a four day school week, with longer days, in an effort to cut costs.

But before they made any changes, the Catoosa Public School district sent home surveys asking parents if they’d be for or against the move.

It turns out, 69 percent of those who responded said they’d be in favor of trying the new schedule. Some because they liked the idea of more family time, or less stress on teachers who could in turn give students more attention for those four days.

Many of the parents who were against the proposal said they’d have to work out daycare or babysitting options.

Even though the majority of parents were in favor of the move, it’s not a done deal.

The district will hold a public forum and then the school board will vote. If approved, the new schedule would go into effect in January.
