SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Saginaw County Commissioners met Wednesday to talk about the state of local roads.

Saginaw County was considering raising money to fix area roads by raising local taxes.

In spite of the road funding bill’s passage, Saginaw County Road Commission Director Dennis Borchard said that could still happen.

He says Saginaw County would see an $8 million boost when the full funding goes into effect in 2021.

"This is a great day for the state of Michigan, and Saginaw County because we haven't seen any increase in revenue since 1997. This is much needed and we will benefit from it," Borchard said.

Borchard said Saginaw County will also not see any of that money until 2017.
