DETROIT (WNEM/AP) -

The struggling Detroit Lions have shaken up their front office.

Lions president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew were fired on Thursday. Team owner Martha Firestone Ford confirmed the moves during a brief press conference and did not take questions from reporters.

Sheldon White will be the team's acting general manager, reporting directly to Ford.

Lewand was in his 20th season with the Lions, and his sixth as president. Mayhew became the team's general manager early in the 2008 season when the team fired Matt Millen.

Both executives took the fall for a franchise that is struggling after having relative success in recent years.

The Lions have the worst rushing attack in the National Football League. And quarterback Matthew Stafford is working on having his worst statistical season ever.

The Lions also fired three offensive assistants last week.

The team has a bye this week.
