Adidas offering to help schools change Native American imagery

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Adidas is offering to help high schools nationwide drop Native American names and mascots.

The company says it will provide free design resources for schools looking to drop the mascots, nicknames and imagery.

According to the group Change the Mascot, there are about 2,000 schools nationwide that have American Indian mascots, including four in mid-Michigan.

But some school districts are struggling with the cost.

Some states, such as Oregon, are requiring schools remove the imagery by 2017.
