Strong winds brings down trees

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

David Pawlicki has some cleaning up to do. High winds brought down a tree onto his garage taking out part of the roof.

"[I] had a lot of wind out here through the years. This one sounded like a freight train," Pawlicki said.

He lives at Seven mile and Salzburg roads in Bay County.

"All of a sudden the power went out. I seen the light on the pole barn flicker and then next thing i know the tree went down," Pawlicki said.

Pawlicki isn't alone. The area was hit hard by the wicked winds that blew through just before dawn. Larry Stone lives just down the street.

"It was really dark out. We didn't see anything until it started getting a little bit lighter and all of a sudden you could see the damage that was going on around us," Stone said.

Tubing was blown across the road. Tree after tree after tree uprooted and on its side. A garage door at Weiss Farms blown out. All a result of wild weather that seemed to come out of nowhere.

"We've had storms before but this one just sort of kept intensifying for about five or ten minutes and then it was gone," Stone said.

Pawlicki said he just got a new roof completed. He was relieved the tree didn't take that out. His neighbor's pool wasn't so lucky, left in shambles by the strong gusts.

Pawlicki said all he can do is rebuild and move on.

"I never like to see anybody's property get damaged. But sometimes living out in the country like you do or wherever it's going to happen from time to time. Just got to deal with it you know," Pawlicki said.
