Mayor mans wrecking claw at blighted former home

Posted: Updated:

A Mid-Michigan mayor takes a personal swing at knocking down blight in his city.

Saginaw Mayor Dennis Browning manned the wrecking claw controls as demolition started, on a former house he owned.

Browning and his wife Sue bought the house in 1971 when Browning was a police officer.

Long after he sold it, it became run down and on the city's blight list project.

On Friday, he was glad to knock it down.

"If it's not repairable and it's in a bad situation it's got to come down, move on," Browning said.

The Brownings raised their three children in the house.
