Rough weather damages cars, property

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Darvonte Primas had a memorable morning. He had just stepped outside of his home in Buena Vista Township.

"Oh no, I was just scared," Primas said.

But strong winds blowing through Saginaw County had other ideas.

"A hard wind just blew and the next thing I know I just see the tree just falling. I tried to run but it smacked me in my back and I just fell to the ground," Primas said.

He was OK. The car in the driveway wasn't.

It had damage from the falling tree. Fortunately, his friend, who was sitting in the front seat of the car, was also fine.

A similar scene played out in Saginaw Township where strong wind gusts took out a tree behind this dentist office near Hemmeter Road and State Street.

Brin Hohensee is a dental assistant. She's relieved the tree fell when her business was closed.

"Most of our patients park right where it dropped," Hohensee said.

But, one man's storm damage is another man's treasure. Jonathan Beck came out to clean up the mess at the office.

"My buddy heats his house with it. We've been just cutting up trees and if people need trees to be cut we cut it up and haul it away," Beck said.

Beck said he goes around cutting up damaged trees where he can – free of charge.

"We help others. The scripture says that in the Bible so," Beck said.

Primas is busy making an insurance claim, but he said he is glad to know no one at his home wasn't seriously hurt.

"As long as we are ok that's all that matters really. That can get fixed. A life can't get fixed," Primas said.
