MSP use incident to reminder drivers to #MoveOver

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Michigan State Police are reminding drivers to #MoveOver for stationary emergency vehicles after a patrol vehicle was hit by a driver while on the shoulder of a highway.

Troopers posted a picture of the vehicle on their Facebook page. Officials say that early Sunday morning, two troopers from the Metro Post were in their cruiser on the shoulder of westbound I-696 in Farmington Hills after completing a traffic stop when another vehicle hit theirs. The troopers had only minor injuries, but MSP is using this as a reminder.

State law requires that you move over for stationary emergency vehicles that have their lights activated. Or slow down and pass with caution if it is not possible to safely change lanes.

The law applies to police, fire, rescue, ambulance, wrecker and road service vehicles.
