Family-run party store to close New Year's Day

GRAND BLANC, MI (WNEM) -

Frank Aremia has party store blood running through his veins.

"My father started in flint in 1932 on Industrial Avenue, which was across from Buick City," Aremia said.

His dad owned party stores at a couple of locations.  This spot has been the place for deli items, alcohol and smokes since 1971.

But Aremia decided to sell the building the store is located in, which includes a couple of other businesses.  He didn't realize how much people loved his business.

"It's overwhelming. I had no idea,” Aremia said. “The niceties that have been said to me have actually been quite emotional."

This building will make way for a dollar tree store set to open next may, which not everyone is excited about.  A lot of people say there are enough similar discount stores along Saginaw Road.

The 69-year-old still plans on working despite closing his store.

"People say why don't you do something that you really enjoy, I really enjoy this, I love meeting the people and talking to them," Aremia said.

To do so, he’s joining Warwick Party Store on the corner of Baldwin Road and S. Saginaw Street next February.

Aremia’s Party Store will close for good on New Year’s Day.
