State Democrats call road funding bill 'reckless'

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party, Brandon Dillon, said the road funding bill is reckless and irresponsible.

He and other Democrats gathered in Flint on Thursday to draw attention to the plan’s weaknesses.

"The solution would've been to make sure that we have corporations pay their fair share to contribute to the pot," Dillion said. "That we have heavy trucks contribute to the pot. That we have a plan that doesn't rob the general fund and schools and public safety to fix the problem. It was a matter of political will and unfortunately Republicans decided the easy way out was to tax poor people, middle class, and seniors for a plan that isn't going to actually come up with a solution."

The party is launching a new ad campaign this week. The commercials call the roads plan a law that's hurts working families by putting the burden of paying for roads on the middle class. All while allowing the wealthy to avoid paying their fair share.

Dillon wants state lawmakers, especially Republicans to come up with a better plan that doesn't hurt the middle class.
