FLINT, Mich. (AP) -

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest in a 2012 murder.

On February 5 of that year, Derrick Dent’s life changed forever. His mother came home to find Derrick’s grandfather, Roosevelt Dent, 78, murdered at his home on the 300 block of E. Marengo Ave.

“It’s like yesterday that my mother gave me that phone call. It’s been very hard on us,” said Dent.

He says his mother is coping, but seeing her father like that is something that can’t be erased.

“A mother finding her father the way she did is just heart-wrecking for her.”

Dent says his grandfather wasn’t just a grandfather to him, but to the entire neighborhood.

“He always gave his heart to anyone he felt needed it.”

And tonight he says his family is just looking for closure.

“I just hope that the person understands what type of person he took from a family. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I wish that person would understand how much we loved and miss our grandfather.”
