Deer Widows Weekend includes bagging a deal

Posted: Updated:
BIRCH RUN, MI (WNEM) -

The opening of firearm deer hunting season is just days away, causing many to pack up their gear, and head to camp.

But those left behind have plenty to do, including some shopping.

Stores have taken advantage of this unofficial holiday, with Deer Widows Weekend.

A weekend for men and women alike to hunt down some deals, while others hunt deer.

For example, Birch Run Premium Outlets is having a three-day shopping extravaganza for people hoping to bag a deal, while also taking advantage of great giveaways, chances to win prizes, and more.

And for Rena Bruzewski and her friends, shopping is like a team sport. They have team shirts, and even a strategy plan. Their goal is to score the biggest sales. “Our group has gotten a little bit bigger. Started about twelve years ago with a small group and now it’s bigger, and we’re on a bus today taking a bunch of packages home with us.”

The annual event at Birch Run Premium Outlets often has a larger turnout than Black Friday.

Jason Wolverton, Director of Merketing for Birch Run Premium Outlets says “We’ve got over 50 retailers that have special savings this weekend only. There’s a lot of money to be saved out there.”

Folks come from all over the state to get their Christmas shopping done this weekend. But this weekend isn’t just about the great deals. It’s also about the experience for women and men who like to shop.

“Friends and family, that’s the biggest thing. It’s about relationships and growing and being strong together as women,” said Bruzewski.
