Security consultant speaks out following tragedy in Paris

Posted: Updated:

Local security consultant and former police officer Henry Reyna speaking out following the terrorism in Paris. “These acts of violence aren't going to stop tomorrow. They're going to continue."

He says more police and more security seems like the answer to keeping you safe in public, but that only goes so far.

"Since 9/11, in the State of Michigan, there are 5,431 fewer police officers on the road. We can't solely depend on the government to secure all of these large facilities."

Reyna says the best thing you can do is to learn how to react in worst-case scenarios.

"For those minutes, and you're going to fall to your training, you're not going to rise to the occasion."

He also believes public venues, like movie theaters, universities and sporting venues should tight up their security.

"They've got to control these access points, and the facility, and the employee have to have training. Lockdown, secure and place procedures and how to respond to violence."

Reyna stresses that regardless of what security measures are in place, you should always be prepared.
