SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Troopers responding to an assault complaint wound up in a chase that ended with the suspect driving into a parked train.

It happened at 10:50 p.m. Sunday night.

Michigan State Troopers were called about an assault complaint in the city of Saginaw where the suspect was allegedly armed, and had taken off in a Chevy Impala.

When they got close to the scene, they spotted the suspect’s car, and attempted to stop him. That’s when investigators say the suspect hit the gas, and sparked a six minute chase.

It ended near the intersection of 14th and Wadsworth after investigators say the suspect left the road, drove across a field, and hit a boxcar that was sitting on the railroad tracks.

The man was taken into custody, and then taken to the hospital to get checked out for minor injuries.

Troopers found a gun they believe he had thrown out of the vehicle during the chase. The serial number on the weapon matched that of a box in the vehicle.

The suspect, a 52-year-old Saginaw man, is currently on parole for assault with intent to murder, and resisting police.
