Police release security footage of possible vehicle involved in abduction attempt

Posted: Updated:

Police have put out an all-points bulletin to law enforcement after three elementary students were nearly abducted Monday morning as they waited for their bus.

"I just almost lost all three of them, right before my eyes. I just almost watched it all happen," Jerrica VanHouse said.

Monday morning, just after 8 a.m., VanHouse said she believes her children were just seconds away from getting snatched.

"Was looking out the door and happened to see this light blue suburban pull up," VanHouse said.

Her children, Mercedes, Missie-Anna, and McKayla were waiting for the bus outside of their Burton home near the corner of Atherton Road and Kleinspell Street.

"I thought it was stopping because the bus was coming, but I also had a feeling that the bus was all the way down there. It was there, and I saw a foot," Mercedes said.

Her mother saw the same thing, and instinct kicked in.

"The passenger door opened, and there was a foot out here, and the ski mask got pulled down, and he went this way, and as soon as he went to turn to go around, I started yelling and screaming for my husband," VanHouse said.

According to a letter sent home to Flushing school parents, Superintendent Timothy Stein said he received an alert from the Genesee Intermediate School District Monday morning following the incident in Burton.

The suburban took off and police arrived shortly after.

Police said the suspects are three black males. They were in a light blue, mid-1990s, full-size GMC Suburban.

Police have released security footage of what could be the vehicle involved in the abduction attempt.

If you have any information on the people in the vehicle call the Burton Police Department at 810-742-2542 ext. 2215.
