SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A 10-car accident closed Center Road in Saginaw Township for more than an hour.

According to Saginaw Township Police, A 51-year-old Saginaw Township man driving a Ford pickup had a medical emergency while driving north on Center Road.

He first hit a Camaro and Chevrolet pickup between Seminole and Sage Lane. The Camaro was forced off the road, hit a mailbox and came to a stop in a person’s yard. The driver wasn’t hurt.

The truck went into the southbound lanes, but the driver was able to get control before hitting anyone else.

The Ford then continued on in the northbound lane until the driver passed Clemson Court, and veered, hitting a stopped Buick. Neither people in that vehicle were hurt.

After hitting the Buick, the Ford truck hit the line of vehicles stopped at the signal light at State Street. The first vehicle was a Pontiac Grand Am. The Grand Am was pushed into the next vehicle in line, and then went air born across three lanes of traffic until it stopped. A Saginaw woman, 34, and her two children, ages 11 and 8 were inside. Everyone had to be rescued from the vehicle, and the mother and children were taken to the hospital.

After hitting the Grand Am, the Ford truck hit an Expedition, forcing it off the road and into a yard. The driver, a 32-year-old Thomas Township woman had minor injuries.

The Ford then hit a gray Kia driven by a 58-year-old Zilwaukee woman. The Kia was pushed into the back of a Pontiac SUV. A 7-year-old boy was a passenger in the Kia and both the driver and the boy were taken to the hospital. A 7-year-old girl, a 27-year-old passenger, and the driver of the Pontiac SUV were all injured, with the child and driver being taken to the hospital.

After being hit, the Pontiac SUV was pushed into a Chevrolet Traverse. A 32-year-old woman and her children ages 8 and 5, all from Texas, were inside. All three were taken to the hospital.

The Traverse was pushed into the back of a Chevy Malibu. The driver wasn’t hurt.

After hitting the Kia, the Ford truck came to a stop. Although witnesses tell police it was still in drive and the rear wheels were still spinning. The driver of the truck was not visibly injured in the crash, although officers reported him being dazed. He told investigators he blacked out and didn’t remember the crash at all. Although he told officers that in the past he has suffered seizures. His passenger had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, as well as the driver to be checked out. Medical staff later said that although they couldn’t find definite proof of a seizure that was most likely the cause.

9 out of the 10 vehicles involved in the crash sustained damage. 17 people were involved, with 10 going to the hospital, and two small children also were sent as a precaution.
