MDOC: Midland man accused of murder out on parole

LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

Gregory Allen Rose is accused of killing a woman, setting her house on fire and driving off in her stolen vehicle. He was arrested in Minnesota on Monday after investigators searched for him all weekend.

“He was currently out of prison on parole,” said Chris Gautz, Michigan Department of Corrections spokesperson.

Rose was jailed back in 1985. His prior convictions include armed robbery, criminal sexual conduct, and assaulting an employee or escaping jail.

“We had denied him parole. Once he was given a 12-month continuance he came back before the parole board and then was eventually paroled,” Gautz said.

Gautz said Rose moved to Midland after he was released.

He was being supervised and monitored there through the Midland parole office, until last week when he cut off his tether.

“Law enforcement knew that we were looking for him. Our absconder recovery team was also on the look-out for him,” Gautz said.

Gautz said it’s extremely unfortunate that Rose committed several crimes before he was caught.

He said, compared to other states, Michigan has a very low recidivism rate, or someone committing a crime after being incarcerated.

"It's very rare that somebody would come back and commit a violent crime such as this," Gautz said. "We'll have parole violators from time to time but to re-offend on an offense of this nature is not usual."
