Neighbors disturbed by random parolee violence

MIDLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Kip Weaver lives just a few doors down from where Connie Pajunen was killed and her home was set on fire Nov. 13.

"Just the randomness and they say there's no connection and I don't know that's a little disconcerting," Weaver said.

He said he’s thankful the suspect, Gregory Allen Rose, has been caught after a manhunt lasting several days.

"There's some closure there," Weaver said.

The day before this home was set on fire, the sheriff said they were looking for Rose for a felonious assault charge.

"We became aware of Mr. Rose Thursday morning. Where he entered a man's home and got into an altercation, assaulted him and took his vehicle," said Midland County Sheriff Scott Stephenson.

With the investigation still ongoing the sheriff couldn't say now how they then linked rose to this murder and arson. But they think he also stole an SUV from Pajunen's home.

They are still trying to locate the vehicle after Rose was arrested in Minnesota on Monday, while driving a stolen Army vehicle.

"That's the type of person where you use every means necessary to try to locate them," Stephenson said.

Rose was a parolee who spent nearly 30 years behind bars for crimes including criminal sexual conduct and armed robbery.

It has some wondering how he was paroled in the first place, but neighbors like Weaver said some people just don’t change.

"He met the criteria and got out. Some people are bad seeds. That's all there is to it," Weaver said.
