Police: Man surrenders after holding hostage with scissors

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -

Police say they talked a man into surrendering after he apparently broke into a suburban Detroit home and held a 15-year-old boy hostage with scissors.

Dearborn police responded around 1 a.m. Wednesday and found the 19-year-old, who had bloody hands, holding scissors to the boy's neck. Police learned the blood was from a self-inflicted cut. The man was taken into custody before being sent to a hospital for treatment.

The 15-year-old's brother had earlier heard a noise in the home and found the man. In a statement, police say officers "were able to verbally de-escalate the situation."

The boy wasn't injured.
