500 people gather for Thanksgiving giveaway

Posted: Updated:

Five hundred people lined up at the Saginaw High School gymnasium this morning to take part in the Lamarr Woodley Foundation’s  8th Annual Thanksgiving Giveaway.

Boxes of household supplies and basic needs like toiletries stood by ready to be passed out.

High School students who volunteered to pass and carry out the boxes were proud to be part of the process.

“It’s amazing, giving back to the community and those in need. I feel like awesome to be a part of it, you know” said Lakia Hamilton a student volunteer.

Woodley couldn’t make it to today’s distribution because he was practicing with the Arizona Cardinals football team. But his mom, Janice Staples, does a good job of speaking for him.

“Number one, he loves Saginaw. And he will always remember where he came from because he was in the same situation. Our family was, we didn’t have a lot, and he just wants to give back. To let people know that he is not too proud, or forgot where he came from. A lot of people are in a tight situation right now.”
